Stocking Up

Stocking Up Shelving

I don’t always wear a tin-foil hat, but when I do, I don’t want to be attacked by zombies at the grocery store during the apocalypse. For our family, this means we store enough food and essential items for more than a day or two. In short, we are fans of stocking up.

Our kitchen has one of those dinky little pantry closets with wire shelves. It was definitely not going to be enough room for my family’s needs. It was time to find a better solution for our storage needs.

On the lower level of our split foyer is an unfinished area that includes our laundry area. It has a nice long wall and stays cool year round. It makes a really place for our supplies.

The shelving units we bought come from IKEA so they are quite affordable. Each section is about 30 inches across and about 6 foot high. We have 5 units. The picture shows two double sections which we built in our living room. We then moved them down to the storage area and joined them together using the fifth unit.

Stocking up allows us to take advantage of sales when they occur. It also means less trips to the grocery store. So, instead of running to the grocery store, we go upstairs to choose our ingredients.
