Lifestyle Changes Can Be Overwhelming

Lifestyle Changes - Brown Eggs

Lifestyle changes, in any major way, can be daunting. I would suggest taking things a step at a time rather than trying to make large changes all at once. For example, for many years, my late husband did not want to buy eggs from a local farmer. He was used to buying them at a grocery store and felt they were ‘safer’ than those local eggs. It did take a bit of work to convince him to try our local farmer’s products, but he became a huge fan. The local eggs are bigger and have much more flavor than the ones from the grocery store.

Over the last few years, family members were skeptical about many of the other changes we were making. It’s a process that can take time. Since homesteading values are part of my background, the changes are mostly easy for me. Folks with more urban backgrounds might find some changes more challenging, Sometimes, convincing others to make a change can be very daunting, so it might help to focus on an aspect that fits in better with their own views.

Most of us like to save money, so if an intended change will save us money we might like it. We stopped using paper towels and started using tea towels and cloth napkins because we saw how much cheaper it was. We each have our own napkins for the week and they go in the wash along with the tea towels and table cloths at the end of the week. Considering how expensive paper towels are these days, the cost of cloth napkins pay for themselves very quickly.

Take a look at your receipt from the grocery store. You might be surprised how very expensive paper products really are.

Look around your house and see what little lifestyle changes you can make – you might be surprised!
